Starts on a wintery night with warm hearts
Ltjg Alvin J. Bytwork in the Navy, and Yvonne Esther Terpstra, both of SW Grand Rapids, MI grew up about 5 miles apart. We first met while ice skating at about age 10. Lost connection until about 19. Our 1st date was in a Christian Reformed Church in Jenison, where we now live. Our first kiss was on the 3rd date. We married on Jan 6, 1956 after Al's first overseas piloting tour through Europe while "home based" in Morocco, Africa. Yvonne was so patient and industrious in her church, work, and plans. God was very good to both of us in molding us. Though we had serious differences of opinions, God did wonderfully in bringing us together for a harmonious life -- for which we are extremely grateful. "Death and life are in the tongue/lashon, and those loving it shall eat its fruit. He who finds a [great] wife, finds what is good and receives favor/razon from the LORD/Yahoveh" (Prov. 18:21,22). More pictures might be posted later.

Start of the Golden Honeymoon in Naples FL '06
At the condo of our son David and daughter-in-love Carleen, who planned for this Golden Anniversary: select gifts, a basket bouquet of personal Blessings and loving remembrances sent by friends and family and written on gift cards, a delicious cake, and a beautiful bouquet of live flowers given by our daughter Debra's family of Cinci, OH.. |
Selecting a Blessing to read out
Yvonne with grandsons Cole and Zach picking out a Blessing slip from the 100+ that Carleen gathered into a Blessing bouquet for us. What a supportive idea and gracious uplifts from friends! MANY THANKS to all.

Reading a Blessing to the family
Al, (right, out of the picture) reads one of their Remembrances/Bible Promises bouquet slips to the family-- Carleen, her Mom Rita and Dad JC (healing) Leonard. The slips are fine additions to Family Devotions. |
Family Dinner at Bayside Inn Naples, FL
With son David, we could also look over the inland waterway and the Gulf from this memorable view place! The Leonards (above) had previously celebrated Wedding Anniversaries at Bayside Inn. Their Anniversary is Jan 7.

Hosts of our Golden Anniversary
They are on Medical Leave from Nigeria to assist their other parents the Leonards in heart/stroke recovery, but wanted to house us for this week of celebrations--swimming, parks, libraries, beaches, etc. Joyful time of play and reminiscing of God's goodness.

Gord and Joyce Gort at our Condo
Special friends who volunteered to take us at 5AM to the airport enroute to Naples. Gord was a fellow officer with Al in high school and a key Class Alumni leader and encourager since. Such long-time caring friends, PtL.. Anniversary Cards and mementos in the background. God has blessed us. |
Our Sunday Class gives us a Surprise Party!
Ken & Sherri Meines (the professional cake baker), 2nd & 3rd front in group pulled off this splendid party for our class. What a thoughtful celebration upon our return from our Golden Honeymoon! Then we settled down to the study the Prophet Samuel and his godly influence on Saul and David of Israel.
